Home Sweet Home

Ahh Lauren, what a lovely student halls you have…..
Thanks, I pay £122 a week for that, more than my Student Loan, more than what I got paid at my last job and more than my  parents’ morgage.
Crazy, I know.
Although the price, I love my little student halls. It feels like home. My room is biggish, I have a bathroom all to myself and not to mention a shower curtain that likes to hug you when you’re naked.
Yeah, overall im happy with where I live. I love my flatmates (well not all of them anyway, but that’s standard) I love having my own bathroom, my independence and a lack of bedtime. (I had a bedtime at home, getting up at 5 in the morning was not pleasant)
However there are some downfalls about being in accomodation:
  • Your oven will be partly broken and it will make strange growling noises everytime you try to cook something in it.
  • Your hot tap will be so hot that you can’t actually use it. Ever.
  • you WILL have a flatmate that listens to very loud, unusual television during all hours of the morning.
Welcome to University Lauren!

How To Survive Freshers!

Freshers week is a daunting and exciting experience. Make the most of it by following my handy steps to ensure that you survive your first week of student life.
1. Ask everyone’s names.
There comes a time after freshers week where it become unacceptable to keep asking people their names that you met on your first day at university. As you walk down the corridors or when your inside of a lift, find out who people are, it’s acceptable during freshers to meet as many people as you can and don’t worry about the ones whose names you keep forgetting their not worth remembering.
2. Bring a doorstop.
However old you are bring a doorstop to university, the first couple of days are the most scariest and exciting days of your life. Having a doorstop gives your fellow flat mates the opportunity to come and meet you whilst you all unpack.
3. Move in early.
It can be extremely daunting when moving to halls or into a flat. Getting to your accommodation early gives you the chance to settle in before the rest of your flat mates arrive.
4. Be ready for a night out.
It’s always a good idea to get an idea of where the main clubs are so that you can make your way back home in the dark. Try and find where the nearest cash machine is to your halls. A night out is a great way to get to know your flatmates, just don’t get too drunk that you make a bad impression.
5. Remember go to University.
You are there to study so ensure that you go to all your lectures during freshers week, this will give you a good insight for your course and will also help you make new friends.
 6. Don’t try to out drink your flatmates.
There shall be plenty of pre-drinking games during freshers but remember we all have limits. There is a lot of pressure to keep up with your new friends – but do you really want to be remembered by the one that vomited and hugged the toilet every night of freshers.
 7. Don’t splash your cash.
Getting your student loan is an exciting time, your bank account is full of money, do not join that group of students that splurge all their student loan and end up eating baked beans for the rest of the semester. Just hold back from the spending and ask yourself ‘Do I really need this?’
 8. Don’t set off the fire alarms.
It’s not big, not clever and it will annoy an awful lot of people (including those in your halls) Most universities do a weekly fire alarm check, which tend to be at ridiculous times. So do not set them off!!
 9. Give people second chances.
Do not judge someone on your first experiences meeting them, remember the phrase ‘Don’t judge a book by its cover’. Freshers is a bizarre time of everyone trying to make friends in a very dysfunctional way. If someone seems like a complete arse then don’t judge too quickly they might have not been blessed with the your level of social brilliance. You will be surprised with who ends up being your real chummies!.
10. Quit worrying so much!
The idea of moving away from home is daunting but remember University is supposed to be the best years of your life, so make the most of it.
Feel free to share your own tips and advice below for future freshers.

Story of My Life - One Direction Review

Story of My Life is a new single released by boy band One Direction. Despite having a busy schedule, and being mobbed by fans 24/7, the boys of One Direction just keep giving! Their new single Story of my life has just been released, and it came as a shock to fans! It is the second single to have been released from the boys upcoming album “Midnight Memories”.
Story of My Life comes across as a typical love song, and who doesn’t love a cheesy love song. I know I do!! With lyrics including: “The story of my life I take her home, I drive all night to keep her warm and time… is frozen (the story of, the story of). The story of my life I give her hope, I spend her love until she’s broke inside/The story of my life (the story of, the story of).” is bound to have young girls all over the world swooning at their feet!
It’s a kinder, gentle, softer 1D, and the track also shows the breadth of talent. 1D are not just a boy band. This song proves they have a long musical future ahead of them. The harmonising comes during the song’s bold choruses, but each member handles a verse. There’s no vocal histrionics, just a solid and sweet delivery of these powerful words.

The music video shows Harry, Liam, Niall, Zayn, and Louis developing childhood pictures in a dark room before those photos come to life, complete with the guys’ real family members. Zayn’s sister puts her hair in pigtails to re-create a photo of the two as kids. And, in an especially touching moment, a picture of Louis with his grandparents and great-grandparents is shown, only to have his great-grandparents fade away when the picture enters the present.
Story of My Life can relate to all the Directioners, but especially to the ones that are a couple of years older. This song hows that the boys are growing up and are no longer the young boys we saw in “What Makes You Beautiful”.
Despite being a well produced track, it still managed to miss of the top spot in the UKs Top 40 Singles Chart. Story Of My Life shot in at number 2 in the charts this, just behind Rihanna’s new collaboration with Eminem.
